Canterbury Under-12 boys sent a team of “Demon Pumpkins” to a hockey tournament in Lille on Saturday and they began with an impressive 11-3 win over the hosts, who were the eventual winners. However, they struggled to find the net in the following two games, drawing 2-2 with Amicale HC (Anderlecht, Belgium) and losing in their semi-final, 4-2 to St George’s HC (Kortrijk, Belgium). Team: Barnaby Wills, Hugo Corteen Coleman, Ollie Curtiss, Charlie Jain, Robin Cox, Sam Ericson, Josh Kitson, Michael Sabine, Nathan Sumner, Charlie Bell The under-12s girls launched their campaign with a convincing win over a depleted home side but the second game was more demanding and saw them lose 1-0. Next up were a boys under 10 side, but, after a strong start and an early goal the girls tired leaving the boys comfortable winners. The final game ended in a 4-1 defeat.

Max Messenger scored twice as the under-14 Boys won 6-2 away to Bromley & Beckenham. Messenger’s opener sent Canterbury in 1-0 up at half-time but Brom/becks equalised and did so again after Messenger had added his second. A tactical change from the coach saw Daniel Gent take control of the home centre midfield and Canterbury began to dominate with a Ben Young flick, Josh Prebble dribble and finish, a well-worked move down the right finished by Blue Kelleher, and a rocket from Tom Izzard completing the scoring.

The under-16 girls lost 2-0 to Surbiton in the Home Counties Premier League. The player-of-the-match award was shared between Aimee Plumb, for her unflagging work in both attack and defence, and keeper Robyn Thompson who made a number of outstanding saves. The Home Counties League side lost 3-1 to Sevenoaks with Josephine Patterson scoring their goal. Emma Panayides was player-ofthe-match for some excellent tackles and positioning.
