Bluebirds’ precision the difference in cup win

Netball

-

There were wins for Canterbury and District Netball League teams Bluebirds and Companion Care in the second round of Don Ansted Cup.

In the opening game between Alpha and Bluebirds, the teams started with a small handicap difference, the former starting on 36 while the latter on 42. Alpha had a one-goal lead by the end of the second quarter thanks to several successful turnovers.

Bluebirds fought back in the third quarter and the shooting duo worked quickly around the D, netting 12 goals in the 15 minutes.

Alpha pushed the ball back up the court but didn’t quite have the same shooting precision.

They couldn’t make up the deficit in the last quarter leading to a 67-61 victory for Bluebirds.

Companion Care and Oasis took to the courts for one of the late games with a slightly more challenging difference in handicap with Oasis starting on six goals compared to Companion Care’s 24.

Both teams worked hard chasing the ball across the court but Companion Care looked to have the legs on Oasis, helping them to add to their lead.

Oasis couldn’t make up the handicap,losing 52-25.

The third and fourth rounds of the cup will be played in February with the semi-finals in March and final in April.

Next week will see all the teams back on court as they return to league action.
