Struggling Bay flatter to deceive

-

Defensive errors led to Herne Bay’s third defeat in four games in the Bostik South on Saturday.

Bay lost 4-1 at home to third-placed Corinthian Casuals and have now conceded 11 goals in their last four.

The hosts were 3-0 down at half-time and despite a goal from Nassim Dukali, could not stage a fightback.

Bay started well in the opening 15 minutes and had Corinthian defending deep in their own half but failed to take advantage.

It was the visitors who opened the scoring after Reylon Dillan’s shot rebounded off the post and hit Jono Richardson before going into the back of the net.

Two minutes later, Corinthian doubled their advantage when Bay failed to clear off their goal line allowing Gabriel Odunaike to score from close range.

The game was put beyond reach of the home side on the 30-minute mark when Josh Uzun’s header looped over Benjamin Hunter to make it 3-0.

A much-improved Bay pushed forward at the start of the second half and forced good saves from the Corinthian goalkeeper Danny Bracken.

They were rewarded in the 59th minute when Dukali fired in Nathan Daly’s cross from the right.

Corinthian’s win was sealed against the run of play in the 77th minute by Hamilton Antonio, who rounded Hunter and passed into an open goal as Bay were chasing the game.

That defeat leaves Herne Bay 15th in the table and they face trips to Greenwich Borough on Saturday and South Park on Tuesday.

Faversham Town’s poor run of form continued as they lost 3-0 at Lewes.

Town have now lost three of their last four and not won for seven games.

The score didn’t reflect how close the visitors came to taking a point as Lewes scored twice in added time as Faversham were chasing the game.

It was Town who started the brighter of the sides with Lewes goalkeeper Lewis Winterton being forced into making good saves.

Danny Walder’s free-kick was pushed away from danger and George Monger had a shot saved.

It was the leaders who opened the scoring, though, through Ghassimu Sow in the 25th minute.

The ball was pulled back from the byline and Sow calmly slotted past the oncoming Faversham defenders to make it 1-0.

Chris Barnard and Mark Lovell were brought on at half-time for Faversham as they searched for the equaliser.

The away side pressed Lewes well and nearly scored an equaliser midway through the half when Ashley Miller’s shot was deflected for a corner.

Renford Tenyue did well down the left to get a ball into the box, Miller controlled and fired in a shot, which had the Town players calling for a handball but just a corner was given.

As Faversham were chasing the game they conceded twice late on. Ronnie Conlon was left free at the back post in the 90th minute to pass the ball into the back of the net.

Just a couple of minutes later, Town gave away a penalty, which was converted by Billy Medlock.

Faversham host second from bottom Molesey on Saturday. Their defeat left them 18th.
