Rugby club need to end barren run

-

Canterbury RFC’S head of rugby Andy Pratt admits his side are lacking a bit of confidence after losing their fourth consecutive game.

The city club side went down 12-7 at Midlands side Broadstreet on Saturday after their two-week break – a result which leaves them ninth in National 2 South.

Pratt wants his side to stop giving away needless penalties when they face third from bottom Old Redcliffians at home on Saturday (3pm). He said: “Maybe we are lacking a little bit of confidence. We are creating a lot of chances but not converting them.

“We have to be honest with ourselves but they need to remember that they are the same team that won seven games in a row earlier in the season.

“We made a lot of handling errors on Saturday and it is things like that that take the momentum out of you.

“Also we have not been on the right side of the referees and we have been conceding a lot of penalties.”

Pratt believes his side should have done better against Broadstreet but did not want to make excuses.

He added: “The performance was frustrating, we gave away needless penalties. We have had some disruption through injuries but are hoping that the young players can deliver on their promise.

“We have had a few changes and it was the first game after the break but there are no excuses.”
