Stannard double helps end run

Bostik South round-up

-

Faversham Town ended their run of seven games without a win after coming from behind to beat Molesey in the Bostik South.

Town had lost four of their last five but got back on track with a 2-1 win against the side second from bottom.

The game got off to the worst possible start for Faversham when they went 1-0 down inside four minutes. Dre Grobler powered his header past Simon Overland from a Molesey corner.

Town were largely the better side for the rest of the first half. Carl Rook had chances at the back post with headers, after crosses from Ashley Miller and Harry Stannard but couldn’t get them on target.

Miller then had a chance of his own after a long clearance from Overland was flicked on by Rook but his shot was easily saved.

Molesey finished the half strongly and they went in at the break with a 1-0 lead.

It took Faversham just 10 minutes into the second half to level through Stannard.

Rook controlled the ball with his back to goal and fed Stannard who found the back of the net to make it 1-1.

Miller then went close after Carrington found him with a defence splitting ball. The forward couldn’t keep his shot down and it went over.

It was all Faversham by this point and Stannard got his deserved second goal in the 73rd minute. Oliver Lee poked it forward for Miller who turned and fed it into the path of Stannard who has continued his run and clipped it past the Molesey goalkeeper.

That win puts Faversham 16th in the table on 33 points. They host Phoenix Sports on Saturday.

Herne Bay lost their third game in a row in Bostik South after they lost at high-flying Greenwich Borough.

Their opponents had won five of their last six matches and left it late to grab a 1-0 win.

New signing Ben Gorham went straight into the starting XI to shore up the away side’s defence and they kept the free-scoring Greenwich side at bay for most of the match.

Bay had their chances in the second half hitting the woodwork twice and putting Greenwich under pressure from corners before the hosts made the vital breakthrough in the 74th minute when Jack Barham scored past Benjamin Hunter.

The home side held out for three points leaving Bay 15th on 36 points.

Herne Bay were due to face South Park on Tuesday but the match was called off for the second time. They visit Horsham on Saturday.
