The cost difference between the NHS and private dental treatment can be significant.

There are three bands of NHS prices starting from £20.60 to cover an examination. That will also include X-rays and a scale and polish.

Going private would cost £40 for an examination, £9 for X-rays and £42 for a scale and polish.

Fillings, extractions and root canal treatment cost £56.30 on the NHS, privately costs £190 per root, and £95 for a filling.

The top NHS band is £244.30 to cover complex procedures such as crowns, dentures and bridges. A full set of dentures privately will cost in excess of £500.
