Im­pres­sive Pearce wins county gold

City of Can­ter­bury’s Thomas Pearce has en­joyed great suc­cess at the Kent Swim­ming Cham­pi­onships, win­ning two medals. Pearce won gold in the 12-year-old 200m back­stroke and bronze in the 100m back­stroke. There was also a bronze for Ge­orge Casey in the men’s open 100m back­stroke. Men’s back­stroke has proved par­tic­u­larly promis­ing, with Henry Pearce and An­gus Lis­ter also reach­ing the fi­nals and Owain Collins nar­rowly miss­ing out. The Kent Cham­pi­onships have been run­ning for the past three week­ends at Crys­tal Palace, with other 200m and 100m fi­nal­ists in­clud­ing Margo Koets, Dan Sea­grove-cas­tle, Henry Pearce, Jes­sica Sug­den and Sa­muel Gu­rung. Four­teen City of Can­ter­bury swim­mers have been se­lected to race at the cham­pi­onships with other com­peti­tors Abigail Pritchard, Chloe Sands, Fady Sheta, Ge­orge Coles, Jenny Adams and Sam Woodard. Some are rac­ing for the first time this week­end when the Cham­pi­onships cul­mi­nate in a round of sprint rac­ing in ev­ery stroke at the Lon­don Aquatic Cen­tre, site of the 2012 Olympics.
