Scam warn­ing

The city coun­cil has is­sued a warn­ing after re­ports of scam­mers con­tact­ing res­i­dents across the dis­trict. A spokesman said: “Crim­i­nals some­times pre­tend to be the coun­cil to per­suade you to give them your bank de­tails. “If you re­ceive an email from us ask­ing for your bank de­tails so that we can send you a coun­cil tax re­fund, please don’t re­spond. If you are due a re­fund, we will al­ways send you a new coun­cil tax bill.” Any­one who re­ceives a sus­pi­cious email or let­ter claim­ing to be from the coun­cil is urged to call cus­tomer ser­vices on 01227 862300 or visit can­ter­bury.gov.uk/ con­tact.
