Appeal for homeless hits £5,000 target

More than £5,000 has been collected for the city’s rough sleepers through an annual Facebook fundraiser.

The generous donations were made following a Christmas appeal launched via the ‘Canterbury Residents Group’ in aid of Catching Lives, which provides food, clothing, advice and other help to homeless people and those in insecure accommodation across east Kent.

Run annually by group administrator Edd Withers, it has raised a total of £11,800 for the charity to date.

Catching Lives trustee James Duff said: “We are immensely grateful for the support of the Canterbury Residents Group and for their amazing generosity.

“The money raised will make a huge difference to the support we can provide to our clients who use our day centre and winter night shelter, which is running until March 31.
