n Recently, listening to a BBC 4 radio interview with a prominent Remainer MP, I writhed when the interviewer failed to ask why she was making proposals that contradicted absolutely the views of her constituents.
In the UK’S largest democratic vote ever, with the clearest and most unambiguous of choices, her constituents had voted by 70% to leave.
This MP, wearing her advancing trousers, was being interviewed by a prominent and respected BBC staffer wearing his retreating skirts, and was promoting the scrapping of Brexit.
This is not good enough. At this stage of the proceedings, rigorous questioning is essential, and all interviewees should be asked what their democratic support from their constituents is to give credibility to their views.
The days of the elite running the country and showing contempt for their constituents are over.
This is part of why we have fought for Brexit, so that we can have more democratic control.
“Blood in the streets” is not predicted, but tears in the political party establishments after elections seem entirely likely.
