Bay pair sink high-flyers Bostik South East

-

It’s now four wins in five games for Herne Bay after they beat high- flying Hastings 4- 1 on Saturday.

Bay’s recent haul of 12 points from a possible 15 has lifted them above Greenwich, Sittingbourne and Faversham in the battle for Bostik South East survival.

Danny Leonard scored twice in the first half either side of a Jake Embery strike as Bay raced into a 3-0 lead.

Daniel Ajakaiye pulled a goal back for Hastings on the stroke of half-time but Embery’s second goal, 10 minutes from time, put the result beyond doubt.

Faversham picked up a precious point thanks to an unlikely 1-1 draw at home to leaders Cray Wanderers.

The visitors arrived 10 points clear at the top of the table but it was Faversham who took a 16th-minute lead.

Liam King’s cross struck an arm in the box and Danny Walder sent Nick Blue the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Danny Divine made a great block to keep out Freddie Parker’s close-range shot but Wands were level nine minutes before half-time.

Karl Dent floated over a corner from the right and Mitchell Nelson was left totally unmarked to score with a firm header.

Faversham rode their luck at times in the second half, with Cray striking the woodwork and seeing several shots cleared off the line before Will Godmon pulled off a brilliant save in stoppage-time.

Whitstable’s winless streak extended to six matches as they were held to a goalless draw at fellow strugglers Greenwich Borough.

Both teams looked short of confidence after poor recent results and rarely looked like scoring.

Borough’s new goalkeeper, Oliver Webber, managed to prevent the ball crossing the line after a Whitstable corner in the 15th minute and that was as good as it got for the Oystermen, despite a couple of promising efforts from John Walker.

Greenwich created little themselves until the last few minutes, when Whitstable seemed to fade badly.

Tushaun Tyreece- Walters went down in the box after a long run, but the penalty claims were waved away and Dan Eason had to make a couple of saves to ensure his team held on for a draw.
