TOURIST TAX

-

Labour proposed introducing a tourist tax in order to make a profit from the district’s 7.8 million annual visitors.

Cllr Baldock said: “Say we get 50p from every tourist - it would be quite useful. It could be collected at hotels, the coach park or from ticket sales.”

Council leader Rob Thomas welcomed the idea and agreed the extra income would “clearly help”, but suggested it wouldn’t be legal for the council to introduce the scheme.
