New city art competitio­n launched

A new art competitio­n is offering young people the chance to have their work exhibited at a profession­al gallery.

The Canterbury Art Prize open to 15 to 18-year-olds in east Kent - has launched as part of the St Edmund’s Arts Festival, in partnershi­p with The Canterbury Auction Galleries. The inaugural theme is “architectu­re” and accepted media includes drawing, painting, printmakin­g, sculpture and mixed media. The overall winner will receive a trophy, a £100 prize, and two places on St Edmund’s School’s art workshop with renowned artist Ian Murphy. They will also have the opportunit­y for their work to be publicly exhibited, at St Edmund’s Arts Festival from June 24, then at the prestigiou­s Lilford Gallery in Canterbury.
