We need CCTV to catch these yobs
I live in a terrace of houses in the centre of Canterbury and for the past three weeks both I and all my my neighbours have had groups of between three and 20 adolescent schoolchildren walking past and kicking at our doors and then running away.
This is not a little football kick, this is a great big full ‘hoof’ at our doors with the aim of kicking it in. My door is cracked and damaged. This continues several times every weekday evening. The local police have been called but have not been able to stop this happening. Why is there not CCTV in our street? This is a regular nightly occurrence and CCTV is the first recommendation by the police. Canterbury is a city with multiple street cameras but they are not strategically placed.
My street is used by many people going into the centre and coming out to the train station, as well as access to Dane John Gardens, where there are regular problems. Surely this would be a simple and obvious position and maybe a solution to this situation and helpful to other prosecutions as well.
Of course violent, aggressive and intimidating behaviour does not receive the same priority as knife crime or drugs; however, it is very threatening to anyone living here, be they young with small children, elderly or single. What can be done? All I wish is for it to stop.
