An exhibition match is to be staged to mark the 90th anniversar­y of fencing at The King’s School, Canterbury. Great Britain will take on Hungary at the Malthouse sports hall on Saturday week (February 29), starting at 5.30pm.

The Hungary team will feature Olympic medallists from the 2016 Rio games – Peter Somfai, Andra Redli and Andras Peterdi, who have also won world and European titles. Georgina Usher, the CEO of British Fencing, the UK governing body of the sport, will be in attendance along with the respective heads of both the senior and junior King’s School and many of the pupils from the Canterbury area who participat­e in the sport.

The sports hall, which is part of the new Malthouse Campus at the school, has been purpose built for fencing with 18 pistes, specialist equipment built into the floor and walls, and room for more than 100 pupils to train.

The exhibition match will be followed by a dinner, starting at 7.45pm.
