Boughton duo land singles

Two members of Boughton under Blean Bowls Club took top positions in the East Kent Short Mat Bowling Associatio­n competitio­n held at Hawkinge.

Karen Gentry won the women’s singles title with a 15-5 success, while Bob Holliday took the the men’s crown, winning 12-3. Clubmates Brian Gentry and Brian May reached the quarter-finals.

In league action, the club’s Acorns lost their two rinks 24-9 and 14-11 to Aylesham Magpies in Division 2. Aylesham took all six points.

It was a similar story in Division 3, where the Challenger­s lost 13-12 and 21-11 to Canterbury Bells, who also took the six points.

The Courtneys saved the week by taking six points at home from league leaders Herne Bay Lancasters. Pat Warner, John Agate and Brian May won 21-7, while Tim Prior, Linda Prior and Brenda Graham were 14-12 winners.

On the social side there is a Table Top treasure hunt at the clubhouse on Saturday at 7.30pm.
