Three Invicta East athletes achieved top 25 finishes in the National Cross Country Championships at Woollaton Park, Nottingham on Saturday. Conditions were extremely muddy, and had to be approached with caution at times for safety reasons, and the the marshals and course directors deserve credit for getting all the athletes round. Invicta’s best finish was achieved by Alex Millard who was 19th in the junior women’s race where she was joined by Imogen Amos, who finished 38th.

Charlie Brisley continued his fine season by coming 25th in the junior men’s race. Clubmate James Akhurst also broke into the top 200, finishing 192nd. Jamie Keir was 25th in the under-15 boys’ category, while in the girls’ race Teigan Sullivan crosssed the line in 82nd, and Amy Goodhand, in 122nd. Under-13 girl Zoe Vallis was 158th while William Madeira was 181st in the under-17 boys, with Adam Mckenna 839th in the senior men’s race, over 12k. ■ Lily Coward competed over 1500m in the British Athletics Indoor Championships at Glasgow on Saturday.

She produced a gutsy run at the front, before the pack got away in the final stages to leave her sixth and just outside the qualifying places.

■ Reef Page became under15 champion over 800m in the

English Age Group Indoor Championships in Sheffield. The race was run as a straight final and Invicta’s Page crossed the line in 2.06.97 after being pushed all the way by City of York’s Louis How (2.07.73) and Zak Ferguson of Rotherham Harriers, who clocked 2.07.77.
