Banned from getting behind wheel
Four men from Canterbury have started the new year banned from the roads after being convicted of drink or drug-driving. Among them is Chris Lingham, of Pilgrims Way, who admitted getting behind the wheel while over the drug-drive limit on June 4.
When stopped in Gravesend, a test found the 34-year-old had more than treble the legal limit of cocaine in his blood. He also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance. He was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work, and banned from driving for 18 months.
Joseph Mcgourlay, of Gordon Road in Canterbury, has also been disqualified for the same length of time.
The 20-year-old had 57 milligrams of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system when stopped in Canterbury, on October 17. The legal limit is 35.
After admitting drink driving, he was disqualified and fined £120. Abdul Olowu was slapped with a 29-month driving ban on December 10. The 25-year-old, of Ypres Court, failed to provide a specimen - either through a breathalyser or blood test - in Margate on September 17.
Along with the driving ban, he was given a 56-day prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work for the community. Meanwhile, on November 30, 27-yearold Cezar-cristian Viga received a 20-month driving ban.
Viga, of Plumpton Walk, pleaded guilty to drink-driving in Canterbury on March 6 last year, as well as failing to surrender to police or court bail.
He was sentenced to 28 days in prison in default of a payment of £1,369, and disqualified from driving for 20 months.
