Canterbury & District League

There was a minute’s silence prior to the match between Snowdown and Littlebourne prior to a feisty encounter at Spinney Lane.

Both clubs stood in silence before kick off last Wednesday following the recent death of PCSO Julia James.

Two early goals put the league leaders Littlebourne in command before home player Kyle Bennett and Liam Blackwell of the visitors were both shown red for a clash after an altercation near the touchline.

Two more goals in the second half completed a 4-1 win for the visitors with Teddy

Johnson (3) and Bobby Powell on target for the winners while for the home side, who were reduced to nine men after keeper Conor Quinn was shown a straight red, replied through Ryan Sims. Wingham won the night’s other game after seeing off visiting University of Kent Monument 5-0 who scored through Martin Henry (2), Jason Cork, Jamie Bullivant and player-manager Ian Pettman, coming off the bench to net the fifth.

On Saturday The Bull defeated Littlebourne 2-0 which means they have to win their remaining two games to clinch the Premier Division title. A John Rich penalty and a Lewis Pout header secured the vital three points for Graham Hampton’s side.

A Ben Cox goal earned Faversham Athletic a 1-0 win at Snowdown United. Cinque Ports Reserves continue to lead Division One after an 8-0 thumping of Minster Reserves whilst Betteshanger Welfare are hoping for them to slip up in the title race after George Revell’s side won 4-0 at The Bull Reserves with Travis Austin (2), Max Butcher and Will Phillpott the men on target. Woodnesborough Reserves won the day’s other game 4-2 at Monkton for whom Luke Howe and Max Angelo Taffs netted.
