Richard masters tough conditions

player John Coupe after posting a two birdie, three bogey gross 72. Harry Fagg was four shots further back in third place.

Askham said: “I’m absolutely thrilled but I didn’t expect to win with that score, 71 wouldn’t normally win but the conditions were flipping awful. “It’s been a long wait for a win, I haven’t even had a sniff of one in the Wednesday competitions and hopefully this had turned the tide a bit.” Brandon Ware was a proud man after skippering his side to a 4-1 win over West Malling’s Kings Hill on his debut as Canterbury’s Invicta League captain.

With more than half the side making either Canterbury or Invicta League debuts, Ware’s side shone in the showers right from the first pairing, with Ben Dancer on a birdie train at the 6th, 7th and 8th to set up a 4&3 win for himself and

Scott Williams. Ware and Mark Lambton dovetailed perfectly for a 5&4 win, Marcus Rabenda and Wal Kalinowski won 4&3 and after Geoff Stockwell and Chris Sherwood lost one down, 19-year-old Jon Warman and Keith Nicholls won the final match 5&3.

Trever Kelly shot his best competitive round by six shots to win Wednesday’s Men’s Stableford from a field of 61 on Wednesday.

Kelly scored four pars, ten bogeys and three doubles in a gross 83 for 36 Stableford points to win by one from Richard Scott, who took second place on count back from Michael Wilson over the 17 open holes. Elizabeth Carlotti came up trumps in the Ladies’ May

Medal on Wednesday to keep the family winning streak going.
