Boden triumphs at Trenley

-

Dan Boden won this season’s Blundell Cup competition at Trenley Lake in Fordwich. Boden finished with 18lb 7oz of bream and rudd. Second place went to Glenn Brett with 11lb 3oz of rudd and roach, narrowly ahead of Alfie Richards in third with 10lb 11oz. Richards caught two sizeable bream and roach while rudd and roach gave Dave Wells 9lb 3oz for fourth during a tough day on the water for all. The weather was sunny throughout and the fish were taken with a mixture of float fishing and feeder tactics, with the feeder proving to be the most successful.

Fordwich Lake has been producing better catches of carp in the past week. Steve Hicks has never caught a carp from Fordwich before but his first fish, a fine 27lb 6oz common carp, was more than welcome. Common/mirror braces were taken by Tom Fleet and Richard Smith. Fleet’s pair comprised a splendid 33lb common and a 20lb mirror, while Smith’s common tipped the scales to a rodbending 30lb and his mirror to 23lb. Other notable catches were taken by Jim Mayln who finished with four big fish including another specimen common carp of 33lb and six more to Colin Hurst with his best fish, a mirror, weighing 24lb.

At Stour Lake, junior CDAA member Henry Weir caught his first carp from that still water. As well as the 15lb mirror carp, Weir went on to reel in a 13lb common carp, a 16lb mirror and to finish off a fine session, a 7lb personal-best tench. Dip tanks remain in place on all Canterbury and District Angling Association still waters, noting there has been another recent outbreak of KHV in Kent. Nets, mats and slings must be dipped (fully immersed) for a minimum of 15 minutes.

The Canterbury and District Angling Association is open to new members of all ages and experience. Visit the website at www.cdaa. co.uk for more details.
