Shield victory for Eversfield

-

The Canterbury and District Angling Association (CDAA) held its Christmas Shield competition at Stonar Lake in Sandwich with 24 competitors targeting silver fish only during the match. Unfortunately, none of the junior anglers had a bite and only 11 adults weighed in as the cold north-easterly wind and high pressure made for difficult conditions. Despite the challenging day, Clive Eversfield won the 2021 Shield with a very fine 26lb 6oz, ahead of second-placed Ian Ritchie with 23lb 9oz. The catches generally comprised bream, with the occasional roach and eel mixed in with them. Another great weight of 17lb 3oz was recorded by Steve West who finished third, while 6lb 10oz was enough for fourth place for Colin Durman.

Away from the competition, a few notable carp have been landed at the Fordwich complex of lakes, managed by the CDAA.

Fishing at Fordwich Lake, Alan Barden landed a 24lb common carp while Mikey Greer caught an equallywelcome mirror carp of 17lb. Fordwich Lake has also hosted some good pike catches although, arguably, it has been a period of quantity rather than big pikes. Junior angler Henry Weir banked 14 pikes over the festive period with his best fish tipping the scales to 11lb 6oz. Adam Matthews coaxed six more predators to 7lb. Carp have also been seen at neighbouring Stour Lake and Trenley Lake, too.

At Trenley, Tom Fleet fished well to finish with three carp that included an 18lb mirror and Ollie Swift caught another rod-bending mirror carp of 19lb.

Karl White managed a slightly bigger fish, a mirror carp of more than 20lb, taken from Stour Lake. The CDAA has membership vacancies.
