Presidents battle it out
It proved to be a busy weekend for Faversham Recreation Bowling Club.
The club held their seasonopening President versus Past President match on Saturday, while the delayed club annual presentation event also took place on the same day.
There was a fantastic turnout with 46 members taking part in the presidents’ game, which saw current president Alan Bing and his team beat past president Brian Grove’s side 103-87.
This fixture was devised in the 1980s by the late John Fullagar.
Meanwhile, the presentations are usually held in December alongside the club’s annual dinner but, unfortunately, had been delayed due to Covid.
The awards were presented by president Bing in front of more than 50 members and friends.
Ray Mcdonald was presented with the trophy for winning the 2021 Club Championship having won a well-contested final against Chris Abbitt.
The Handicap Cup was won by Ken Neame, with Nobby Gore the runner-up.
The Ash Cup was won by Paul Ellison, with Neame the runner-up, while The Ten Point Cup was won by Bill Willis ahead of Dick Ayres.
Sam Wilde claimed the Novice Cup, Julian Brooks the runner-up in that competition, and the Pairs Cup was won by Neame and Janet Wimble.
The runners-up in that competition were Ron Cordell and Vonnie Finlayson.
Mick Butt won the Chris Tyler award which recognises the work a member puts in during the year.
He turns up every Tuesday morning with the working group to carry out many of the volunteer jobs that need doing and he has been a loyal member for more than 10 years.
Butt also is frequently seen supporting the club for matches even when he is not playing.
