City move off bottom spot

Canterbury City moved off the bottom of the Premier Division table as they came from behind to beat Bearsted on Saturday. Two-goal Henry Arnold and Seb Rowland struck for Danny Lawrence’s side, who came from behind to win 3-1.

Boss Lawrence said: “It was definitely a game of two halves. We started brightly and should have taken the lead early on. “But for the rest of the half we were far too passive in how we were defending and, in possession, had no real control of the game.

“Bearsted deserved their lead. We said a few words at half-time which clearly hit home as we were a completely different side, second half. Once we got into our groove, we took control of the game. “We scored three fantastic goals and showed exactly what this team is capable of with some great individual performances.

“A massive thank you to the fans that made the trip as well, it was lovely for the boys to walk off to that ovation - we will keep fighting for you!”

City, six points from safety with four games left, host Punjab United this Saturday and visit bottom side K Sports on Monday. Dylan Riches bagged a brace - including a second-half penalty - in Faversham Strike Force’s 2-2 home draw with AFC Whyteleafe.

Gary Axford’s team will look to keep their play-off hopes alive at Lewisham on Saturday and at home to Lydd on Monday.

■ Kent County League Whitstable Reserves completed their campaign with a 2-1 defeat against Holland and Blair.

It was Whitstable’s 16th defeat of the campaign and they remain at the foot of Division 1 Central & East. Woodnesborough lost 2-1 at high-flying Snodland Town Reserves, despite a Liam Jelley goal.

In Division 3 Central & East, Sellindge moved to within a point of leaders Chilham thanks to a 4-2 win at Cinque Ports Reserves. Ashley Boyd, Brandon Lynch, Lucas Wade and Jordan Spann scored the Sellindge goals.
