Pam adds team glory to singles success
Faversham GC’S Pam Gander won the singles and team competition at the women’s captain course swap day with Wrotham Heath GC.
Stepping up to the plate with 35 points, her efforts helped her team-mates come out on top in the main competition. Gander said: “It was one of those days where everything felt easy.
“There was no pressure to smash the ball. We just played our own game.
“The third is a tricky blind hole. From the tee, you have to go long and to the right to be in with a chance of seeing what’s over the hill.
“My second shot rolled a little way down to the right, giving me a good view of the green. “I finished with a nice pitch on and putted in for six, giving me
three points.
“I was playing well on the front nine with two and threepointers until the ninth. “I drove into the rough and my first attempt at getting out didn’t go well and I was still in the rough. Luckily, the long
grass was laying in the right direction, so I was able to come out.
“I then had a couple of good fairway shots. But it wasn't enough and I came away with a blob.”
The team game running alongside - a Stableford competition, two scores counting with all three on par threes - added to Gander’s prize pot. Second was Jan Gardener on 33 and Katrina Howard was third on 31 points.
The team competition winners were Gander, Gardener and Howard on 83 points. Nearest the pin on the 17th was Lucy Murphy and nearest the line on the ninth was Sheila Fullagher.
The May Day mixed competition was won by Lucy and Alan Murphy with 26 points over 13 holes.
Second went to Margaret Fullagher and Wayne Neesham with 25 points on countback from Deanna Neesham and Stuart Fullagher. Faversham women beat Walmer and Kingsdown women 4&1 in an away friendly last Thursday.
