Finlay plays starring role

There was an eight-wicket Kent League Division 3 win for Canterbury 2nds at St Lawrence & Highland Court 2nds on Saturday.

Only opening bowlers Finlay Mayer (7-31) and Emma Hughes (3-32) were required as the home team were dismissed for 67 despite Shineyu Anand’s 26. Captain Ben Line (33 not out) saw Canterbury across the line. Whitstable 1sts suffered a five-wicket Championsh­ip defeat at The Mote 1sts. Teenage Kent all-rounder Jaydn Denly’s 48 guided Whitstable to 158 all out but The Mote got home despite Denly taking 2-19. Whitstable 2nds came out on top in Division 4 against Bromley Common 2nds. Josh Gould (3-30) limited the visitors to 226 all out before Henry Goss’s 47 not out saw Whitstable to 227-7. Chestfield 1sts defeated Division 2 rivals Bromley 2nds by two wickets.

Bromley reached 143 all out, despite Arron Bennett’s 4-25. Bennett (23 not out) saw them home after captain Ben Burgess top scored with 35. Chestfield 2nds lost at home to Mersham Sports 1sts in Division 6 Hurricane. Jacob Couzens (30), supported by Beckham Hulks (29 not out), got them to 130-8. The visitors reached 132-5 despite Tom Clifton’s 3-41. Faversham 1sts went down at Westgate-on-sea 1sts in Division 7 Hurricane.

The hosts made 285-8 despite Thomas Bullock’s 3-43. Jack Goodenough top scored with 43 but Faversham were dismissed for 179. Street End 1sts eased past St Margaret’s Cosmopolit­an 1sts. Captain Matthew Hopper’s half-century (77) helped them to 208-7. Matthew Goldbacher returned 4-19 as St Margaret’s were 128 all out.

Sheldwich 1sts lost by 59 runs to Northdown 1sts. James Creed (5-12) kept the visitors to 123 all out but only Jevin Amin’s 24 offered any resistance as Sheldwich were bowled out for 64. Littlebour­ne 1sts’ fixture against Elham Valley 1sts was abandoned.

Herne Bay 1sts lost by five wickets in Division 10 Shepherd at Walmer 2nds. Ronak Patel (33) top scored in Bay’s 106 all out.

In Division 12 Shepherd, Reculver 1sts were big winners at Canterbury 4ths. Sanjaya Edirisingh­e (102) and Manobala Kumaresan (55) helped them to 209-8 (Eleanor Todd 4-59). Canterbury were 80 all out in reply, Prabath Salgadu taking 4-19.
