FOR FANS OF: Bring Me The Horizon, SHVPES, Linkin Park

■ Being merely ‘good’ is never a good thing for a band. Being merely ‘good’ while also thinking you can pull yourselves up through liberal application of irritating computer noises and effects is basically like firing a cannonball into your own hull. Such is the case for Palisades on Erase The Pain. Their Linkin Park-y nu-metal is so often nearly good, but they neither throw themselves wholeheartedly enough into a bath of their influences, nor do they take it any further and add their own personality. And while the electronics float along behind the music nicely enough, too often there’s a weird noise that makes you wonder what the hell made them think it was a good idea. On the plus side, on War they show off how well singer Lou Miceli Jr can emulate Chester Bennington’s scream, and there’s some good riffs, but ballad Runaway is pure cheese, and the whole thing sounds like it just needs an injection of energy to bring it to life.
