ARMS (MAKE 2) Us­ing Graphite yarn, cast on 4 sts. Row 1 (WS): Purl. Next row (RS): Kfb in ev­ery st. 8 sts Start­ing with a purl row, st st 3 rows. Change to Fuch­sia. Start­ing with a knit row, st st 12 rows. Next row: K2­tog to end. 4 sts Cut yarn and thread through.

MAKING UP 1 Gather round cast on sts and pull up tightly. Sew seam, leav­ing a small gap at top of arm. 2 Turn right side out and stuff lightly. 3 Pin arms in place at sides of body in line with legs about 0.3cm (0.1in) down from neck. Sew in po­si­tion se­curely.

ADDING THE EYES Sew two beads in place on the head for eyes, start­ing eight rows up from inc row and with about 8 sts in be­tween them. Pull the threads tightly at the back to help make in­den­ta­tions for the eyes. Check they are even and se­cure at back of head.

MAKING THE NOSE To make nose, cast on 4 sts us­ing Apri­cot. Work 3 rows st st then p2­tog twice.

1 Cut the yarn and thread through. Sew the yarn gen­tly through all sts on edges then pull up gen­tly. Add a lit­tle fill­ing. Pull up tightly and then sew to­gether. 2 Pin nose in cen­tre of face, just be­low eye level then sew in place. Use the edge of a red colour­ing pen­cil to gen­tly work some soft cir­cles for cheeks and on the nose. Use a length of white to work an up­side down V above each eye for eye­brows.

BELT BUCKLE Cut a length of Sun­shine yarn and twist the ends to show in­di­vid­ual strands. Twist gen­tly to un­ravel. Us­ing one strand only, work a square of sts round cen­tre st in black stripe. Se­cure at back.

BEARD Us­ing White, cast on 12 sts. Row 1: Knit to last 3 sts, turn. Next row: Knit to end. Next row: Knit to last 6 Next row: Knit to end. Next row: Cast off 2 sts, knit to end. 10 sts Next row: Knit to end. Cast on 2 sts. 12 sts Next row: Knit to last 3 sts, turn. Next row: Knit to end. Next row: Knit to last 6 Next row: Knit to end. Cast off.

Place un­der the nose with the long end point­ing down­wards. Sew in po­si­tion se­curely.

HAIR Us­ing White, cast on 14 sts. Row 1: Knit to last 3 sts, turn. Next row: Knit to end. Next row: Knit to last 6 Next row: Knit to end. Next row: Cast off 2 sts, knit to end. 12 sts Next row: Knit to end.

HOOD Us­ing Win­ter White, cast on 60 sts. Knit 2 rows. Change to Claret. Start­ing with a knit row, st st 12 rows. Next row: K2­tog, knit to last 2 sts, k2­tog. 58 sts Next row: Purl. Rep last 2 rows till 48 sts rem. Cast off. Fold hood in half and sew back seam.

CLOAK Us­ing Win­ter White, cast on 60 sts. Garter st 2 rows. Change to Claret. Row 1 (RS): Knit. Next row: K2, purl to last 2sts, k2. Rep last 2 rows five times more. Next row: (K3, k2­tog). 48 sts Next (and ev­ery alt) row: K2, purl to last 2 sts, k2. Next row: (K2, k2­tog). 36 sts Next row: (K1, k2­tog). 24 sts Next row: (K2­tog). 12 sts Cast off purl­wise.

MAKING UP Gather round base of hood and pull up gen­tly. Sew cast off sts of cloak to base of hood. Place on head and over body. Sew se­curely around neck and around hood. Tie in all the loose ends, to fin­ish.
