BACK Using 15mm needles and thumb method cast on 34 ( 38: 40) sts. Row 1 (RS): Knit. Row 2 (WS): K1, purl to last st, k1 These last 2 rows are called st st (stocking stitch) with edge sts. ** Cont in st st until work measures 63 ( 65: 65) cm, 24¾ ( 25½ :25½) in, ending with a WS row. FRONT Work as given for back to **. Cont in st st until work measures 57 ( 59: 59) cm, 22¼ ( 23¼ :23¼) in, ending with a WS row.
Shape front neck Next row: Patt 11 ( 13: 14) sts, turn and leave rem 23 ( 25: 26) sts on a stitch holder. Working on this group for left side of neck only proceed as follows: Next row: Patt. Dec 1 st at neck edge in next row. 10 ( 12: 13) sts. Cont straight without shaping until work measures 63 ( 65: 65) cm, 24¾ ( 25½ :25½) in, ending with a WS row.
50 ( 50: 50) cm 19¾ ( 19¾ :19 ¾) in Cast off rem 10 ( 12: 13) sts. With RS facing, re-join yarn to rem 23 ( 25: 26) sts left on a stitch holder, cast off 12 sts, patt to end. 11 ( 13: 14) sts. Next row: Patt. Dec 1 st at neck edge in next row. 10 ( 12: 13) sts. Cont without shaping until work measures 63 ( 65: 65) cm, 24¾ ( 25½ :25½) in, ending with a WS row. Cast off rem 10 ( 12: 13) sts.
Sleeves (both alike) Using 15mm needles and thumb method cast on 16 ( 18: 20) sts. Row 1 (WS): Purl. Cont in st st with edge sts as given for back, inc 1 st at each end of every foll 6th row until there are 26 ( 28: 30) sts. Cont without shaping until sleeve measures 50cm (19¾in) ending with a WS row. Cast off in st st.
MAKING UP 1 Join shoulder seams. 2 Mark points along side edges 22 ( 23: 25) cm, 8¾ ( 9: 10) in, below shoulder seams. 3 Fold the sleeves in half lengthways, then placing sleeve top folds to shoulder seams, sew sleeves in position between markers. 4 Join side and sleeve seams. 5 (Optional) with RS facing and 10mm crochet hook join yarn to neck edge at shoulder seam and work 1 rnd of dc evenly round neck edge. Join rnd with a sl st and fasten off. 6 Pin out sweater to the measurements given. Cover with clean, damp tea towels and leave until dry. 7 See ball band for washing and further care instructions.
