Top company’s expansion plan
A major UK company has expanded its operations in North Lanarkshire.
Supply chain solutions giant Wincanton has acquired an additional 127,000 square feet of industrial space at Belgrave Logistics Park in Bellshill.
This complements the company’s Scottish Gateway hub which opened at Eurocentral in April last year.
Wincanton is a leading supply chain partner to UK business, employing 5000 drivers and 20,300 other staff across more than 160 locations.
It operates across a number of markets including retail and manufacturing, construction, food and consumer goods, e-Commerce, the public sector, infrastructure, energy and defence.
“Wincanton’s expansion highlights North Lanarkshire’s position as a prime location for the transport and storage industry, with 10 per cent of Scotland’s businesses in this sector located here,”said Councillor Alex McVey, convener of the enterprise and fair work committee.
“A total of 670 transport and storage businesses operate in North Lanarkshire, with a turnover of £1.080 billion and employing more than 10,300 people.
“The combination of excellent transport links, a skilled workforce and quality business accommodation and development land makes North Lanarkshire a go-to location for aspiring companies.”
Belgrave Logistics Park is a £55 million new development by Knight Property covering 261,193 square feet across five all-electric buildings.
Derek Stirling, country manager for Scotland at Wincanton, said:“This new distribution centre, our second in Scotland within two years, reinforces our long-term commitment to Scotland and promises enhanced services and efficiencies for our customers and partners across the country.
“We are delighted with the high-quality space and accessibility of our new facility at Belgrave, conveniently located in close proximity to our existing hub in Motherwell.”
