Top company’s expansion plan

A major UK company has expanded its operations in North Lanarkshir­e.

Supply chain solutions giant Wincanton has acquired an additional 127,000 square feet of industrial space at Belgrave Logistics Park in Bellshill.

This complement­s the company’s Scottish Gateway hub which opened at Eurocentra­l in April last year.

Wincanton is a leading supply chain partner to UK business, employing 5000 drivers and 20,300 other staff across more than 160 locations.

It operates across a number of markets including retail and manufactur­ing, constructi­on, food and consumer goods, e-Commerce, the public sector, infrastruc­ture, energy and defence.

“Wincanton’s expansion highlights North Lanarkshir­e’s position as a prime location for the transport and storage industry, with 10 per cent of Scotland’s businesses in this sector located here,”said Councillor Alex McVey, convener of the enterprise and fair work committee.

“A total of 670 transport and storage businesses operate in North Lanarkshir­e, with a turnover of £1.080 billion and employing more than 10,300 people.

“The combinatio­n of excellent transport links, a skilled workforce and quality business accommodat­ion and developmen­t land makes North Lanarkshir­e a go-to location for aspiring companies.”

Belgrave Logistics Park is a £55 million new developmen­t by Knight Property covering 261,193 square feet across five all-electric buildings.
