I was glad to read in your feature on the old Lancashire village of Coniston that hopes were high the restored Bluebird power boat would be going on display at the village’s Ruskin Museum. This is a brilliant little centre for local history and having Donald Campbell’s vehicle there would give them and the community such a lift. It seems only right as the man himself in buried in the local cemetery.
My Victorian child,
to you I write Of the memory, of those past long days But you my little rose of Lancashire Have your own, little
To be that child, I myself once was
As I sat upon the cobbled way I had the same dreams as you now hold On that warm, long summers day
Donald Campbell’s restored Bluebird on the water for the first time in more than 50 years
