OUT OF INDIA
Indian carved hardwood tables are a saleroom staple, most of them dating from the 1960s and none of them anything special to write home about. This one, however, is somewhat older and a real work of art. What sets it apart is the dense, geometric inlay of mother of pearl and tinted ivory mounts and its arcaded base similarly inlaid to represent the windows in Mughal architecture. Sent from a private home for sale at Liverpool auctioneers Cato Crane, it sold to a telephone bidder for £820.
