Mild hy­brid boost for new C-class

Mercedes-benz is look­ing to build on its success – it was the UK’S fourth best-sell­ing brand last year – with the new-gen­er­a­tion C-class sa­loon and es­tate. Priced £33,180 to £50,875, the up­dated, facelift C-class features more ef­fi­cient diesel and petrol engines, while an op­tional 12.3-inch dig­i­tal cock­pit dis­play en­hances the lux­u­ri­ous cabin.

The C200, in rear or all-wheel-drive, features a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol en­gine with mild hy­brid sys­tem, boost­ing out­put to 184hp, achiev­ing up to 46.3mpg com­bined with CO2 as low as 136g/km. The C220d now gets the 194hp 2.0-litre diesel en­gine, first seen in the E-class, giv­ing up 61.4mpg and CO2 from 117g/km. The C43 4Matic has a 390hp 3.0-litre V6 biturbo petrol en­gine and can sprint to 62mph un­der five sec­onds with MPG around 30 and CO2 from 213g/km. All mod­els have nine-speed au­to­matic trans­mis­sion.
