A private collection of 60 lots of vintage fountain pens was offered at 1818 Auctioneers, Milnthorpe, on behalf of the widow of a private collector from Chester. Comprising mainly Parker Duofold pens in good condition, the collection achieved a 100% clearance and raised a total of £8,100. Most valuable proved to be a Parker “Snake” pen with hallmarked silver mounts, number 18 of a limited edition of 5,000, which sold on estimate for £420. A commemorative Duofold, number 600 of appropriately 1,945, was contained in a cherrywood box carved with the inscription ‘On the 2nd September 1945, Gen Douglas Macarthur signed the Japanese surrender aboard the battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay using a 20-year-old Parker Duofold Fountain Pen’.
