Fol­low a short path­way from Moor Hall and you’ll reach a won­der­ful old cruck barn. This is a sec­ond more in­for­mal din­ing room and – sur­prise, sur­prise – it’s called The Barn.

The 65-seat room with a the­atri­cal open kitchen at one end makes for a spec­tac­u­lar venue to en­joy everything from a not-so-hum­ble Lan­cashire hot­pot to a Sunday lunch of roasted 40-day aged Buc­cleuch sir­loin of beef. It was awarded at Miche­lin Bib Gour­mand this year.

Down­stairs a char­cu­terie and cur­ing room, a small dairy and a brew­ery will com­plete a re­mark­able hive of culi­nary ex­cel­lence.
