It marked the end of a spec­tac­u­lar week for chef Si­mon Martin and the team at MANA. A restau­rant mov­ing faster than a ru­n­away train, this An­coats din­ing des­ti­na­tion has al­ready picked up a long list of awards in­clud­ing their first Miche­lin star and a raft of Manch­ester Food and Drink Festival awards. The tal­ented chef does what it takes to suc­ceed - he left be­hind one of the world’s best restau­rants, NOMA, in Copen­hagen , to set up his own restau­rant. Pride is taken in sourc­ing the best in­gre­di­ents with fer­mented pro­duce - first started at Si­mon’s home be­fore the res­tu­ar­ant was launched and the tal­ented kitchen team turn out a jaw-drop­ping tast­ing menu. This is the one to watch.

‘In my 29 years, this has been the most mem­o­rable week of my life,’ said Si­mon. ‘And this award re­ally is the ic­ing on the cake. I’m so pleased. We’ve had a Miche­lin star, four MFDF awards and now this - six awards in a week and we’re 11 months in. That’s a lot to take in. It takes a lot of hard work, but it’s hard work for ev­ery­one in this in­dus­try. We have an amaz­ing team who are al­ways push­ing on and I’m re­ally for­tu­nate to have them.
