LRM VERDICT

-

All four inspection cameras offer good enough image quality via their LCD screens for confident diagnoses in numerous inaccessible situations. The added ability of some to record images and video for viewing on a computer or laptop, or sharing via email, makes them a tool unlike any other you’ll own. You may not use one regularly, and that perhaps might help you decide which is best suited to your needs.

Sealey Specifications On paper, the mostly highly-specified camera is Sealey’s feature-laden Pro-scope. It does everything extremely well – with rechargeable Li-ion batteries, too. Although I persevered with it, I couldn’t master the very thin camera shaft and its inability to illuminate close-ups inside our test cylinder bore. Otherwise, it does everything else seamlessly.

Ring’s Reach It’s closest rival for spec is Ring’s RBS200. Easy to use with excellent results. Simple touches, such as the lens rubber hood, prove very worthwhile where oil and water are present. Ring’s compact screen size didn’t hinder its quality either. The flexible shaft can be extended up to 10 metres, so chassis rails inspection shouldn’t be an issue.

Clarke Simplicity Clarke’s no-frills camera is as easy as it gets to switch on and view. Although it can’t record on board, it nonetheless offers simple viewing with good quality and an uncomplicated set-up. I liked using it.

Silverline Value Silverline have given all the others a run for their money. The image quality is excellent and easy to view on its screen. Achieving stable images via the flexible shaft isn’t difficult and can be readily recorded on the included Micro SD card.

A lack of flip and rotate features might frustrate regular pro users on a tight schedule but, that aside, this is a lot of kit for the money. Even the mirror fits through a Series III spark plug hole. Navigation through the menus is straightforward, allowing files to be deposited in folders for future reference. For the money, it merits a place in your tool kit. Four ways of seeing, offering a vital window for confident inspection and diagnostics
