2002 to 2012

THE THIRD-GENERATION Range Rover looks the part. Earlier examples are cheap, but don’t underestimate the running costs – especially from petrol V8s. The diesel Td6 is less thirsty. Drivetrain and electric faults are common, but the biggest problem is cheapskate owners who skimp on servicing and repairs and run them into the ground. Buy one that's been neglected and you are asking for trouble. Be warned: when L322s start to go wrong, they get very expensive to put right and parts aren’t cheap, either.

BUYER’S TIP: Prices falling, but beware of dogs. SPECIFICATIONS 2002-2005: 4.4-litre BMW V8 petrol, 282 bhp, 325 lb-ft torque. 2002-2007: 3.0-litre BMW Td6 turbodiesel, 177 bhp, 287 lb-ft torque.
