Bad corrosion

1 This view of the inner sill from below, at one of the body outriggers, gives an indication of the general condition of the steel in the body.

No strength

4 The lower part of the C-post has practically disintegrated with rust and is very weak – a major issue that affects the core structure of the body shell.

Gently does it

7 After all the appropriate rivets have been drilled out, this triangular body panel section can be completely removed from the Land Rover.

Better condition

2 The rust extends forward toward the bulkhead outrigger, although this section is not beyond redemption with some effective rust treatment.

Reveal it all

5 The middle floor panel has already been removed, and work begins on fully exposing the C-post by removing the plastic rivets holding the wheel trim.

It might be still stuck

8 It is worth noting that as well as the rivets, the triangular body panel was bonded to the C-post, although most of the adhesive had broken down.

Getting worse

3 Along the length of the sill the corrosion is advanced, getting worse toward the rear at the Station Wagon body cross member, which is below the C-post.

Alittle boring

6 The body panels immediately surrounding the C-post need to be detached from it, so the blind rivets are carefully drilled out using a 5 mm drill.

Furniture removal

9 Inside the Station Wagon, the fittings close to the C-post need to be removed, both for access and to prevent damage – particularly the seat belt.
