Avoid dangerous chaffing

20 Where any wiring harness is to pass through a panel, a grommet must be fitted too. Here a hole has been drilled for an access route to the battery compartment.

Not too confusing

21 Although the dashboard loom has many terminals, these are conveniently labelled and grouped into three for the main isolator switch, and the two air lockers switches.

Just the ones we need

22 The group of cables for the main switch are threaded through the switch mount location, while the other unused groups are tucked out of the way in the dash.

Final hook ups

23 The switch body is in position after each of the four terminals is connected according to the very clear instructions provided with the air compressor kit.

Fumble in the dark

24 When the Land Rover lights are switched on, the ARB compressor switch illuminated as pictured above, so that it can be easily located in the dark... A handy feature.

Status informed

25 The second lower light illuminates when the compressor is switched on and is live, even though the compressor might be silent due to the pressure cut-off switch operation.

Couldn’t be better

26 The air hose from the Pump Up kit clicks into the coupling easily, as does the inflation gauge, and access from either front door or the Safari door is excellent.

Alternative mounting

27 Here is another Defender installation. The ARB air compressor has been fitted under the driver’s seat with an aperture cut out for access.
