Land Rover Monthly

Only the big boys get invites

-

I’m just a magazine reader and I think I’ve read all the copies of the five magazines ever produced that have been dedicated to the Land Rover marque. I think that currently LRM is the most interesting, even the best.

I also read Car magazine and that’s very informative, but somehow the articles are somewhat stark and cold. With the LRM contributors you feel as though you know them and they are friends. Enough of that rubbish.

The main reason I’m writing is with reference to the fact that it was noticeable that the Land Rover company had invited Auto Express to drive the new Defender. Reading LRO it indicates that the same happened on their side, with the main car magazine within their publishing group given an introduction to the new vehicle.

Now to me that appears most unusual, almost strange, even weird. You’ve got a great magazine dedicated to Land Rovers, but you send a representative from a car magazine. The invitation wasn’t a mistake, because it was repeated with another magazine. Graham Nash,

In their wisdom, Land Rover decided to invite the four biggest car titles in the UK for a first drive in the Defender. Sadly, Land Rover Monthly (and Land Rover Owner magazine) don’t fall into that category.

Fortunately our sister title Auto Express does and so we were able to get one of their journalists to do an article for us. It was too big a story to miss out on.

The good news, of course, is that this copy of LRM is probably the first magazine to feature a pic of a new Defender on the cover, and it doesn’t get better than that. We hope you like it, Graham – Ed.

?? ?? Is it fair that the first drive of the new Defender was reserved for generic car mags?
