How long have you had the One Ten?

We bought it as an MOT failure 6 months ago; my other half Sam has done all the work on it and got it back on the road. We’ve been off roading a bit on local lanes in Yorkshire; there are lots of lanes within an hour’s drive.

What’s your history with Land Rovers?

I got my first Land Rover back in about 2002; it was a Freelander and my second car. I’d wanted one ever since I was a kid but my dad wasn’t having it. This is my 7th Land Rover now. I’ve only been greenlaning and off roading for five years. I met my partner Sam, who is an off-road instructor five years ago. Go figure.

Favourite Land Rover adventure?

We enjoy doing lanes in the Lake District. My favourite is Tilberthwaite, a really challenging lane before it was recently sanitised. Unfortunately there’s a lot of people against off-roading in that area and a lot of the lanes we love to do have been closed. Very sad really.

Future plans?

Definitely going back up to the Lake District. We normally go to North Wales regularly; there are some smashing routes up there. If travel restrictions are lifted, we’re off to Morocco in October in our One Ten, a 3-and-a-half-week trip round the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara, mostly wild camping. You’ve got to bring all your spare parts and tools on trips like this; you have to be able to fix the Landy yourself. Advice for new off-roaders?

Take a course; there are lots out there for off-road / 4x4 driving and you should get suitable qualifications. Or go on a trip with a recognised company where experienced drivers will help you if you’ve never done it before. We go with Trailmasters; they run trips all over the country and abroad. Or join one of your local clubs; we’re members of East Riding 4x4x club.

Of the Drives featured in Drive 25, which would you most like to do? We would love to do the Wild Atlantic Way, Coast to Coast and North Coast 500.
