GO GREENLANING IN WALES

-

THE thing about Wales is that you can go laning there for three of four weekends in a row and never drive the same lane. The valleys are vast and plentiful. So too the sheep. When it comes to greenlaning then Wales is undoubtably the king of the home nations. One way of dividing up the main laning areas would be north, mid and south Wales. Each a laning utopia in its own right. You could just focus on one of these areas or if you have the time do a combination or all three of them. Do your research beforehand and find out which lanes are still officially open and contact the local GLASS rep to ask if they have any new updates regarding the lanes or area you will be driving in.

If in north Wales then the most popular lane has to be the Wayfarer, the highest public road in all of

Wales which will take you through the magnificent Berwyn Mountains. Be warned that you won’t be able to drive this lane if very wet. Expect tight squeezes, long rocky climbs and descents, muddy sections and washouts. Do the Wayfarer and you will feel good, like you have just driven up and over a mountain. Don’t miss the popular nearby crossing of the River Alwen near Cowen. It turns even the biggest balls into tiny raisins.

Our favourite mid Wales lane is the scenic Golf Links greenlane which drops down into the town of Rhayader while when it comes to south Wales the one lane everyone talks about has to be Strata Florida where decent off-road driving skills are a must-have.
