Land Rover Monthly

JLR’S green credentials

-

ONCE again I’m driven to write to you, firstly to say I’m enjoying your excellent magazine, but I take exception to the letter written by Jim “I used to be a proud Land Rover owner but now I’m not so sure” Stokely. He’s completely out of touch with JLR’S stated future goals, as announced by Thierry Bollore: six new electric models to be launched in the next five years, Ice-powered vehicles to cease production in 2030, Jaguar fully electric by 2025 and alongside that investment in hydrogen, too! The take-up on the recently-launched hybrid Discovery Sport and Evoque is excellent, so I hardly think JLR needs reminding about “saving the world’s resources”!

He says Land Rover used to be an “everyman’s vehicle” that was an inspired design and transformed lives. Well, in this still-proud Land Rover owner’s opinion they remain just that with products that appeal to many and which many people aspire to own!

The designs are inspired and will continue to transform lives. They are for the modern world! No one and no company, especially a motor manufacturer, can continue to live in or trade on past glories. I will concede that the V8 Defender is in your face, but it will appeal to a small minority of people and be built in correspondingly small numbers!

His closing statement: “Who wants to be associated with a fleet of vehicles seemingly designed to hasten the death of the planet” is crass in the extreme. The company is embarking on the biggest change in its history and the vehicles that are coming will I’m sure be fit for use in this changing world and will continue to be class-leading and exciting products that people will continue to aspire to own!

Keep up the good work, LRM is one of the magazines I always look forward to reading! Phil Gorman The letter Phil refers to questioned JLR’S decision to produce a 150 mph Defender - Patrick.
