The Land Rover Stage Two Register
SCOPE: The Land Rover Stage Two Register is a Facebook group that caters for early coilspring utility Land Rovers. Not an official club in the formal sense, it has developed as a grass roots movement and embraces all early coil spring models. While there is no official cut-off point, broadly speaking the group caters for pre-defender models that are reasonably true to their original design. FOUNDED Founded in 2017 as an idea between a small group of friends. Rather like the original Land Rover Register and Range Rover Register which were founded to discover the fate of the pre-production models, the Stage Two Register sought to do the same with significant vehicles in coil spring development. This has been remarkably successful, and a number of group members have carried out extensive research, discovering the fate and whereabouts of a significant number of prototypes and launch vehicles. It was a natural progression to acknowledge the growing interest by embracing all first-generation coil-spring models. NEWSLETTER: There is no official newsletter but the Facebook group is very active. The discovery of significant vehicles and developments in grass roots research are often reported on in the main Land Rover magazines and in publications by well known motoring journalists. FACEBOOK: The Stage Two Register 1976-1984 MEMBERSHIP: The group has over 900 members around the world. Membership is free. ACTIVITIES: Online discussions, sharing of photos and information, enthusiasts repairs and restorations. The Gaydon Land Rover Show is a focal point for the group in the show calendar with a stand usually displaying a range of development and early production vehicles and there are grass roots gatherings at the other main shows, in particular at Land Rover Legends. The group remains a movement rather than an official club.
