How you can help protect public access to public roads

-

THE Green Lane Association – GLASS – in conjunction with the Trail Riders Fellowship (TRF) has begun a crowdfunder to raise money to fight a legal case that will shape the future of motorised rights. Their claim is that legislation that bans motor vehicle use has been misused and if we don’t challenge it then cars and motorbikes may be prohibited on many more public roads.

Says GLASS: “So to those who have an interest in greenlaning, trail riding and accessing our amazing countryside then read on – GLASS needs your help. When legislation is misused to reduce public access to the ordinary road network we need to act, fast. Imagine having regularly used the minor road network in your town or village, only to have that right extinguished by legislation that was not intended to be used for that purpose.

“This is the situation residents of St Mawgan found themselves in when Rectory Lane was reclassified as a restricted byway. The legislation used to downgrade the lane to the lowest class of public road with no motorised rights was never intended to apply to ordinary roads, but now that it has, it must be challenged.

“This local case, supported by local residents and the Parish Council, will have national repercussions for public access. GLASS and the TRF will soon fight the case in the High Court and the outcome will set a precedent in law. Failure to mount a successful challenge will leave us all open to similar future actions.

“If you are able to donate, no matter how small an amount, please do – every penny counts. Go to the crowdfunding page listed below and show your support.

“Please help to spread the word too, and share the link with friends and family: crowdjustice.com/case/ save-our-village-road.”
