I’ve been testing out Wheel Tables’ first version of its, well, wheel table.

Made from powder-coated steel, the table is quickly deployed by hooking over a wheel of your Land Rover and then adjusting the single support leg to suit the height – this can be placed directly on the ground or against the tyre depending on the terrain; you also need to adjust how far in it sits against the tyre for full support before finally locking into place. It seems suitable for most typical tyre widths and terrains.

The Wheel Table has proved useful and no doubt as soon summer returns I will be using it a lot more. It’s a handy picnic table, or for longer camping trips, the perfect place for your all-important beer. It’s also useful that it has a solid top to help prevent things from being easily knocked over (thinking a wine glass

here). The overall construction feels robust and I can see it lasting for many years to come.

Orange spray-painted branding on the corners helps people to see the table and not bash into it. The trouble is that this will likely scratch off fairly easily as it’s applied over the powder-coated finish. So if walking into the table is of concern, especially with young children around, a fluorescent sticker or two would help in terms of campsite visibility.

As with anything new and shiny, I’m trying to to keep the Wheel Table looking fresh for as long as possible, so I tend to leave it in the cardboard box it arrived in to prevent it getting scratched by other items stored in my 90. Thankfully it stows flat and sits nicely on the floor of the load bay, out of harm’s way.
