Land Rover Monthly

The future’s bright

- MARTIN DOMONEY EDITOR @LAND_ROVER_MARTIN

I’LL take any opportunity to get out and see areas of the country that I haven’t been to before, because I believe that a change of scenery can work wonders when it comes to feeling good and being motivated to crack on with stuff.

One such opportunity was to help out at our first Spares Day of the year at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern. I have to confess that I’d never been to the Malvern area before, so I decided to make the day as much of an adventure as possible by leaving the faithful (and comfortable, and economical…) Freelander 2 at home and instead grabbed the keys to my V8 Series III.

The 120-mile journey is the longest trip I’ve done to date in the Series III, so I took an hour before setting off to check the engine and transmission oils, grease the propshaft joints, top up the coolant and washer bottle and make sure all the lights worked as they should. I needn’t have worried – the Series III rumbled all the way there without issue, and I spent the weekend working with Steve Miller and Kate Goulding wearing a very attractive orange hi-vis jacket and greeting visitors, directing traders to their pitches and generally doing whatever I was told. It was a cracking day; flick to page 78 to see the full report.

In all honestly, even if you don’t need any parts for your Land Rover, a Spares Day is an entertaining day out. There are Land Rovers of all types everywhere, decent food and enthusiastic people, so if you’ve never been to one before I’d thoroughly recommend it – we’re holding them all over the country this year, and be sure to come and say hello to the team. We’ll be the ones wearing orange.
