Snail shell cane tops

-

As the garden begins to fill with new life, fast-growing plants require support. Fixing empty snail shells to the top of canes removes the risk of injury to the eyes while working in the garden. Balls of modelling clay are softened and placed inside clean, empty shells collected from the garden. One end of the cane is pushed firmly into the clay to secure the shell. Once the clay is dry, the topped canes are used as supports for plants, or to hold up netting to protect vulnerable young plants from birds.
