INSPIRING ANIMALS

The Chillingha­m wild cattle have frequently been depicted in art. The most famous representa­tion is the engraving The Chillingha­m Bull by the Northumber­land artist Thomas Bewick in 1789 (below), now in London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. In 1867, the landscape artist Edwin Landseer depicted a majestic bull standing protective­ly over his cow and calf in The Wild Cattle of Chillingha­m.
